Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the 10th Assembly, has strongly criticized the purported All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election held on April 20, 2024, to select the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the November 16, 2024, Ondo State Governorship Election, labeling it a mega fraud.

Speaking at a Press Conference in Abuja with the National Assembly Press Corp (Senate), Senator Ibrahim questioned the legitimacy of the election that declared the incumbent, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as the winner.

He noted that various indicators, including reports from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 14 aspirants, and a significant portion of party members, suggested that no election took place across the 203 wards of Ondo State on April 20, 2024.

Senator Ibrahim also distributed certified true copies of INEC reports regarding the APC primary election to journalists at the National Assembly Press Centre.

He emphasized that INEC officials, tasked with monitoring the exercise, concluded that no election occurred in 15 of the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, representing over 80 percent of the expected total votes.

In a direct challenge, Senator Ibrahim called upon Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, the chairman of the election committee, and his secretary, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, to provide evidence of the purported election conducted on April 20, 2024.

He specifically demanded video evidence showing any of the aspirants, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, voting in their respective wards.

The senator rejected the idea of settling with the party’s top hierarchy or adhering to the doctrine of party supremacy to resolve the dispute over the primary’s outcome.

He emphasized that he is already in court and intends to pursue the case to the Supreme Court.

He stated that he has exhausted all internal party mechanisms for political settlement, including submitting a petition to the party’s Appeal Committee and writing to the National Working Committee, but has not received a favorable response. Therefore, he believes he is justified in seeking judicial solutions in the court of law.
