•“I take responsibility for this loss” – Sunak
King Charles III of the United Kingdom has accepted the resignation of Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister following the Conservative Party’s defeat in yesterday’s general election.
The Labour Party, led by Sir Keir Starmer, won 410 seats, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.
Sunak, after addressing journalists, went to Buckingham Palace with his wife to tender his resignation.
While addressing the press, Sunak apologized to Britons and took responsibility for his party’s loss.
“I have given this job my all. But you have sent a clear message, and yours is the only judgement that matters. This is a difficult day, but I leave this job honored to have been Prime Minister of the best country in the world,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sunak won his re-election and he will be returning to the parliament as a member of the minority party.
