Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has accused adversaries of attempting to undermine his administration. Speaking to the Standing Committee and members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Port Harcourt, Fubara highlighted persistent efforts by opposition elements to disrupt his governance.
He emphasized that these actions aim to thwart his administration’s commitment to providing good governance and quality services to the people. Fubara stated that his administration would not pursue the completion of the monorail project initiated by the previous Chibuike Amaechi-led government unless a serious private sector investor engages under a private-public partnership.
The governor clarified that the present administration will not go into the completion of the monorail project initiated by the Chibuike Amaechi-led government, except a serious private sector investor decides to commit resources to the project under a well-defined private public partnership arrangement.
He expressed his aspiration to be remembered for sustainable contributions to human capital development, healthcare, and education, alongside infrastructure projects like legacy bridges and flyovers. The governor pointed out attempts to sabotage the Rivers Economic and Investment Summit, including secret efforts to discourage key speakers and prominent personalities from participating. He praised the courage of those who defied these pressures and attended the summit, aiding the state’s economic rejuvenation.
Additionally, Fubara highlighted efforts to derail the Port Harcourt International Automobile Spare Parts Trading and Commercial Centre project in Iriebe, Elelenwo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. He accused detractors of persuading previous contractors, who had abandoned the project due to lack of support, to sue the state government in a bid to halt progress.
