Govt insists on N60,000 minimum wage

Organised Labour has declared a nationwide indefinite strike starting Monday, following the failure of the federal government to reach an agreement with union leaders on the new minimum wage.

Sources at today’s meeting between government representatives and union leaders disclosed that the government insisted on a N60,000 minimum wage for workers, a proposal that was rejected by the worker representatives present at the meeting.

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, confirmed that the union has resolved to go on strike.

Ajaero made this known at a press conference in Labour House, Abuja, stating that the strike will commence by midnight on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
