Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail of N300 million after his arraignment on four counts of printing new naira notes without due process.

Emefiele, who pleaded not guilty, appeared before Justice Maryanne Anenih at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama today.

As part of the bail conditions, he must provide two sureties with titled property in Maitama and deposit his travel documents with the court, forbidding him from leaving the country without court permission.

Justice Anenih adopted similar bail conditions from another judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, who is handling a separate criminal case against Emefiele.

The trial is scheduled to begin on May 28.
