President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive banning members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) from purchasing petrol-dependent vehicles.

The President has mandated the procurement of compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered vehiclesa by all government ministries, departments, and agencies.

This decision, announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, aligns with Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring energy security, enhancing utility, and reducing high fuel costs.

The move is part of Nigeria’s commitment to transitioning to cleaner energy, as CNG-enabled vehicles are known to produce lower emissions and offer a more affordable alternative for energy consumers in the country.

President Tinubu emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to energy reforms during a meeting with FEC members, stating, “This nation will not progress if we continue to dance on the same spot. We must lead by example in driving CNG adoption across the country to achieve a prosperous future for our people.”

Furthermore, the President directed the rejection of all proposals for the purchase of traditional petrol-dependent vehicles by FEC members, urging them to seek value-driven procurement of CNG-compliant vehicles instead.

Tinubu’s administration remains dedicated to harnessing Nigeria’s gas potential, reducing transportation costs, and improving the standard of living for all Nigerians.
