Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will regain control of Ondo State from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16, 2024 governorship election.
Makinde made this assertion on Monday during a meeting with PDP leaders from the South-West geopolitical zone in Ibadan, where they initiated efforts to reconcile various PDP factions in Ondo State.
Makinde emphasized the unity within the PDP ranks, expressing support for the PDP governorship candidate in Ondo, Mr Agboola Ajayi, and the collaborative efforts with other parties to ensure a strong PDP presence at the polls.
“Our candidate HE Agboola Ajayi is here, and the first step forward for us is to reconcile all the tendencies in Ondo State. This is because once we have a unified PDP in Ondo State, we have a path to the Alagbaka Government House,” Makinde stated.
He further noted the solidarity of PDP leaders and stakeholders from across the six South-West states behind the Ondo PDP candidate, signaling a strong intent to win the election.
Echoing Makinde’s sentiments, Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke stressed the unity and transparency within the PDP and hailed Ajayi’s victory in the party primary.
Adeleke emphasized the PDP’s commitment to reconciliation, especially among disaffected members, to ensure a united front in Ondo State.
In his response, PDP governorship candidate Agboola Ajayi expressed gratitude for the support from Governors Makinde and Adeleke, as well as other PDP leaders. He affirmed the PDP’s strength in Ondo State, pledging to work towards a successful election in November.
The meeting was attended by notable figures including former Governor of Osun State Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Governor of Ondo State Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, 2023 PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State Hon. Ladi Adebutu, and former PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State Barrister Eyitayo Jegede.
Other attendees included former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP Chief Olabode George, PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, and South-West Chairman of the PDP Barr. Kamoru Ajisafe, among others.
