An INEC report on the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election held on April 20th in Ondo State has raised concerns over the conduct of the poll in the Akoko South East local government area.
The report, a Certified True Copy from the electoral body, stated that the party electoral officials did not oversee the election in the local government.
The report claimed that party voters reportedly resorted to queuing behind their preferred candidates and counting themselves due to the absence of these party electoral officers.
The election committee, chaired by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa the winner of the poll with 48,569 votes.
Ododo stated before announcing the final results at the APC collation center in Akure that the poll took place in 17 out of the state’s 18 local governments, with the exception of Ifedore local government.
While announcing the Akoko Southeast result, the electoral officer said Aiyedatiwa got 2,533, Wale Akinterinwa scored 43, Chief Olusola Oke got 391, and Jimoh Ibrahim scored 67 votes.
However, the INEC report revealed that the party’s shadow election did not take place in Akoko South East.
The document listed several wards where the election did not take place, including Ifira, Ipe I, Ipe II, Ipesi, Isua I, Isua II, Isua III, and Isua IV.
Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was among the 16 contenders in the election and has decided to contest the process legally.
His legal team is headed by three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs): Chief Chris Uche, Michael Aondoakaa, and Gordy Uche.
‘The News Eyes Daily’ gathered that this INEC report is one of the numerous documents that Ibrahim will tender at the law court to prove that the APC failed to conduct an election in Ondo State.
The 2022 electoral law says “INEC shall monitor the primaries of each political party that provides the required legal notice in line with Sections 82 (1) and (5) of the Electoral Act.”
