Lagos, Nigeria — The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will make their first visit to Nigeria next month after Harry attends the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in London.

Prince Harry is scheduled to attend a ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8 to mark the milestone. It’s unclear whether Meghan will accompany him at the event.

The couple will then travel to Nigeria at the invitation of the country’s chief of defence staff, whom Harry met in Germany during the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf last September.

In Nigeria, Harry and Meghan will connect with service members and their families, and take part in traditional cultural activities. Local media have reported that the Defence Headquarters is “honoured” and “delighted” to host the couple, and it will be their first visit to Nigeria as a couple.

Harry’s return to the UK marks his first visit since February, when he saw the King following a cancer diagnosis. He will read at the service of thanksgiving for the Invictus Games.

Meghan and Harry moved to the United States in 2020 after stepping down from their royal duties. The upcoming trip to Nigeria signifies a notable moment for the couple, who continue their humanitarian and cultural work around the world.
