Makinde, who became governor at the age of 51, emphasised his governorship’s transformational journey, which many believed was impossible at the time.

The governor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated this at the Debo Ogundoyin Students’ Legislative Summit in the University of Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.

“When I became governor of Oyo State at the age of 51, some people thought it was impossible, but against all odds, it became a possibility.

“I have decided that by 2027, I will not support any candidate over the age of 52 in my party,” Makinde stated.

He urged young people to persevere in pursuing their dreams, using his own journey to leadership as an example.

The governor’s pledge signals a shift towards promoting youth leadership and has the potential to reshape Oyo State’s political landscape, emphasising the importance of generational change in governance.
