The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Hadi Sirika, the immediate past minister of aviation, for alleged money laundering.

Sources within the anti-graft agency have disclosed that the investigation is related to an amount of N8,069,176,864.00 linked to the “Nigerian Air” scandal, during his tenure as Minister of Aviation.

Hadi Sirika arrived at the EFCC’s Federal Capital Territory Command around 1:00 pm on Tuesday, responding to the agency’s summons.

He is currently being questioned by EFCC investigators regarding alleged fraudulent contracts he authorized for a company called Engirios Nigeria Limited. This company is reported to be owned by his younger sibling, Abubakar Sirika.

The former minister, who served in the former President Muhammed Buhari’s administration, is expected to provide clarifications on various financial transactions and contracts during his tenure.

The EFCC is reportedly focusing on uncovering any misappropriation of funds or fraudulent activities related to his time in office.

The investigation into Hadi Sirika’s alleged involvement in money laundering and fraudulent activities underscores the government’s commitment to fighting corruption at all levels.

The EFCC has assured the public of a thorough investigation and the application of the law in bringing anyone found guilty to justice.
