Warns against imposition of Aiyedatiwa as the party candidate
Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Sunday took to the streets to protest what they claim were irregularities and biased conduct during the ward primaries held across the state on Saturday.
The ward primaries were intended to select the party’s candidate for the November 16, 2024, governorship election in the state but were marred by reports of non-availability of election materials.
Protesters demanded the cancellation of the ward primaries as they gathered at the APC state secretariat in Akure to voice their displeasure over the alleged irregularities that occurred across the state’s 203 wards.
Many of the protesters are supporters of aspirant Olushola Oke, and they carried various placards calling for the removal of the chairman of the primary election committee, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
They described the process as “daylight robbery” and urged the national secretariat of the APC to prevent the state from descending into crisis.
One protester claimed that no ward primaries took place, alleging that the guidelines given by the national secretariat of the party were not followed, as the committee did not distribute materials to any wards.
Party members warned of potential consequences if an unpopular candidate is imposed on them, as it could adversely affect the party’s chances in the governorship election.
