BAYER LEVERKUSEN WINS BUNDESLIGA TITLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 120 YEARS
Bayer Leverkusen has been crowned Bundesliga champion for the 2023/2024 season after defeating Werder Bremen 5-0 on Sunday.
This season, Bayer has remained undefeated. The club has won 38 of its 43 competitive matches and drawn five.
While fans and players alike celebrated late into the night on Sunday, Leverkusen’s historic title victory also sees them exorcise their demons of the past.
They had previously finished as Bundesliga runners-up five times, with the most recent being in 2011.
The most famous of their failures occurred during the 2001/02 season, when they were favoured to win the title but only managed to win one of their final four games, allowing Bayern Munich to win by a single point.
